On Wednesday 21 September the FANRPAN Regional Food Security Policy Dialogue presented youth case studies to delegates. The day commenced with a welcome from Principal Secretary: Ministry of Agriculture, Dr Robert Thwala.

This was followed by a Keynote Address by the Minister of Youth and Development, Hon. Hlobsile Ndlovu. Apart from her charisma, she outlined how the Kingdom of Swaziland put measures in place to cater for youth development. The CEO of FANRPAN, Dr Lindiwe Majele Sibanda, invited all youth (under 35s), to join the Minister on stage.

The Technical Centre for Agriculture and rural Cooperation (CTA) has a similar focus as that of FANRPAN. Director for CTA, Mr Michael Hailu, delivered a talk on the youth and the programmes that CTA is engaged with to assist with youth development.

USAID has various programmes in place to empower the youth. Ms Cecilia Khupe, Senior Programme Manager: USAID Regional Office for Southern Africa made delegates aware of these programmes.

The session was concluded when the Minister joined youth during tea and engaged with them and the media, including the journalists who are undergoing training. The final touch was a group photo at the scenic grounds of the Royal Swazi Spa.
